Water Conservation for a Sustainable Connecticut, Denise Savageau, Conservation Director, Town of Greenwich

Connecticut is a state with tremendous water resources.  Over the past several decades, however, changes in both supply and demand is forcing the State and its residents to take a hard look the way we use water.  This is evident in the Draft State Water Plan that has recently been released.  Savageau will review the current water supply challenges, the drivers behind them, and role that everyone, including irrigation contractors, can play in ensuring a safe and sustainable water supply for all of Connecticut.

About Our Speaker:

Denise has served as Conservation Director for the Town of Greenwich’s Conservation Commission since November 1997 and works to protect the natural and cultural resources of the Town.  Her workload in Greenwich includes drinking water supply protection, watershed management, open space protection, fish and wildlife management, hazard mitigation planning/climate change adaptation, cultural resource protection and sustainable community programs.  Current key projects include: a) source water protection, b) water conservation implementation and outreach/education, and c) coordinating the Town’s Clean Energy Community program.

Denise works actively on a myriad of local, state, and national environmental issues that impact local communities.  Currently she serves on the Connecticut Water Planning Council Advisory Group where she co-chaired the work group to update the State’s Drought Management Plan.  She also serves on the Long Island Sound Citizens Advisory Committee.  As the Town’s representative to the local soil and water conservation district, she serves on the CT Council for Soil and Water Conservation and is also President of the CT Association of Conservation Districts and on the national board for the National Association of Conservation Districts.  As President of CACD, she also participates in the CT Source Water Protection Collaborative.

She is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and holds a B.S. in Agricultural Economics with a concentration in Environmental Economics and Natural Resource Management.
